Chryso Mouzourou, PhD, served as the primary author of the Preschool Track since 2013 and as the Lead Content Creator for the Virtual Lab School from 2014-2016. She collaborated with the VLS team to ensure that the VLS content reflects high-quality, comprehensive knowledge about child development, family functioning, and recommended practices that support young children and their families. Dr. Mouzourou earned her M.S. in Autism and Behavior Disorders from the University of Kansas and her PhD in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Illinois. Over the years she has taught a variety of university courses, and supervised teacher candidates in practicum placements in public school and home settings. Her background and research include exploring perspectives on disabilities within school and home environments, peer relationships, and cross-cultural constructions of disability. Through her research and practice, Dr. Mouzourou advocates for caring, inclusive communities where all children are accepted. She is co-author of the Making Friends Program (2016), a book that shares research on attitude development of young children and field-tested, research based strategies for promoting the acceptance of all children in early childhood settings. As a former teacher of children with diverse abilities, Dr. Mouzourou is dedicated to ensuring that practitioners have access to recommended practices for young children and their families. Dr. Mouzourou’s engagement with the VLS has given her an opportunity to be part of a team of talented individuals who collaborate to provide practitioners with access to a powerful training tool that is designed to impact the quality of child and youth care across the nation.
