Kathleen Artman-Meeker, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Education at the University of Washington and the primary author of the Training and Curriculum Specialist modules. Until 2013, she was responsible for developing the original structure of Virtual Lab School content and leading the content creation team. In addition, she developed the Child Abuse and Neglect Identification and Reporting modules for all tracks. Dr. Artman-Meeker earned her Ph.D in Early Childhood Special Education from Vanderbilt University. She has experience working as an elementary school special education teacher, a childcare program assistant, a supervisor, a coach, and a researcher. In addition, she collaborates with the Head Start National Center on Quality Teaching and Learning (NCQTL) to design and deliver coaching resources to support coaches in Head Start classrooms. Dr. Artman-Meeker has worked extensively with teachers to prevent challenging behaviors and to promote young children’s social-emotional development. Dr. Artman-Meeker’s father served in the Air Force and the military community has always been an important part of her family’s identity. She is proud to have a chance to give back to the military community through the VLS. She has enjoyed traveling to installations and spending time watching the videos that the VLS team brings back from their trips.
