Exposure to trauma can have profound impacts on the cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development of children and youth. This four-lesson course examines different types of trauma, how to identify symptoms of trauma exposure and how to use trauma-informed practices to support children and youth that have experienced adversity. This course examines Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the importance of nurturing relationships to buffer the effects of adversity. The last two lessons of this course focus on secondary trauma, avoiding burnout, and how to alleviate the impact of secondary trauma through wellness and self-care initiatives.
