Child Abuse Supplemental Trainings

Understanding how to prevent child abuse—and how to quickly report and respond to suspected abuse or neglect—is a critical component of high quality care. The following trainings were developed to ensure that all professionals can recognize key indicators, understand developmentally appropriate expectations, and follow proper reporting procedures.

Modeled after our Targeted Professional Development (TPD) modules, these DoW Supplemental Trainings are brief refreshers focused on essential, high impact concepts related to the safety of children and youth. They meet annual training requirements and align with DoDI, CDA, NAEYC, and COA standards. These trainings are intended for staff without VLS accounts and are not trackable within the system. Staff with registered VLS accounts should use the TPD versions of these trainings which can be found in the TPD catalog or in account progress dashboards.

Supplemental Trainings can be completed individually or as part of a group session, either by viewing the online materials or by printing a copy for in person use. You can view the official memorandum and learn more about completion requirements in previous VLS news articles.
