Self & Cultural Understanding

As a Training & Curriculum Specialist, you have a unique opportunity to promote a positive sense of self in staff, children, and families. In this course you will learn about the influence of culture, physical and social environments, and effective coaching. You will also learn about the unique opportunities and challenges military families encounter. Stress reduction and self-care for families and staff will also be addressed.

Sense Of Self: An Introduction

You have the dual responsibility to understand (a) how adults develop a sense of self and (b) how this affects the work staff members do with children and other adults. In this lesson, you will learn about developing a sense of self. You will learn about resilience and the influence of culture on the sense of self.

Promoting A Sense Of Self: Environments

Throughout the Virtual Lab School, you have learned about the importance of high-quality environments—both physical and social-emotional. These are critical to development and learning, and they help children develop a sense of self. This lesson will focus on how you can support and guide adults as they think about how their work influences children. It will also include strategies for promoting wellness and a sense of self for adults.

Promoting a Sense of Self: Experiences and Activities

Your interactions with others can affect how they view themselves. This lesson will focus on ways you can promote positive interactions, respond to stress, and effectively support the learning of others. It will include information about effective coaching. It will also include information about strengthening families and recognizing signs of stress in yourself and others.
